She wanted to be an actor for as long as she can remember. Though she started off with advertisements and short films, she shot to fame with ‘Yudh’ with Amitabh Bachchan. Since then, Aahana Kumra has only gone up the ladder of success. Her latest film ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ is hitting the screens this month, after courting, and clearing, controversy. She chats with Anila Kurian about the film and more.

The film has seen its share of challenges...
We didn’t know what the fate of the film would be, even though we were sure that it will win awards and all. But when Ekta Kapoor came on board, we knew everything was going to be alright.

Thoughts about the content...
It’s difficult to make a movie like this in India. We struggle to produce good content here but a movie like this had to be made.

Now that it’s finally releasing...
A film like this hasn’t come out in a long time. It will make people uncomfortable but in a good way; it‘s a movie which will make you think. I am excited.

Films that moved you...
I don’t watch Hindi films anymore as I cannot resonate with them. However, I do enjoy watching indie films. I quite enjoyed ‘Masaan’ and ‘Aligarh’.

What do you like about Bengaluru?
Everything! I absolutely love Bengaluru; the traffic is annoying but I still love it. I hope to come back very soon.

The fitness videos and pictures on your Instagram...
I’ve always been an athletic person and a dancer. It’s also part of my profession to look fit. I’ve taken to yoga after eight years and it‘s made me a much fitter person.

There are a lot of food pictures too...
(Laughs) I work out so that I can eat as much as I want. I get angry when people tell me that I can’t eat something.

Your sinful cravings?
I love Mumbai street food, ‘dosa’ and Chinese.
