If the increase in number of shows is an indication, ‘Ondu Motteya Kathe’,  a newly released Kannada film, has won the hearts of movie buffs.

Buoyed by the overwhelming response for the film, actor and director of the film, Raj B Shetty, on Saturday, said, “While the film was screened in 20 single screen theatres in the first week, it has doubled to 40 to 45 screens in the ongoing second week. Similar is the trend in multiplexes, where the number of shows were increased to 21 within three days of its release on July 7. Initially, only seven shows were allotted. It has even surpassed the shows allotted to new releases in both bollywood and hollywood, followed by fast booking of the shows.”

Participating in an interaction organised under the auspices of Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Association at Mangaluru Press Club here, Shetty, a newcomer, said, the movie is replete with over 50 newcomers, all selected only after audition.

Mangaluru style of Kannada, extensively used in dialogues throughout the movie, is the plus point. Language is never a barrier in reaching the audience. Apart from the coast, the movie is doing good in Mandya and Ramanagaram belts, followed by Belagavi and other parts of northern karnataka, he added. Shetty was happy to recall the moment he showed the movie to actor Puneeth Rajkumar, who was in awe about its making.

Produer Suhan Prasad said there is a growing demand for remake rights from the producers in Telugu, Malayalam, HIndi and also Marathi films.
