Opposition slams Roopa's transfer

Last Updated 17 July 2017, 21:37 IST
The Opposition BJP and JD(S) on Monday lambasted the state government for transferring IPS officer D Roopa.

BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa said Roopa’s transfer proved that the government was meant only for the corrupt.

Roopa had exposed corruption in the Bengaluru Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara and the supply of drugs and narcotic substances in the jail, he stated. “The government, instead of conducting a thorough enquiry into the irregularities, is trying to white-wash the entire episode,” Yeddyurappa said in a statement.

JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy also slammed the government for transferring Roopa and accused it of targetting a whistle-blower. It (transfer) is not unexpected. The government has been targeting whistle-blowers. It is now the turn of Roopa to expose corruption and irregularities in Bengaluru central prison. The government does not want the truth to come out,” he told reporters.

“Why did the government shift the convicts in a hurry?...Even the family members of the convicts were not informed about it,” he said.

Meanwhile Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that Roopa had been transferred in the interest of administration.
