Police have arrested a 52-year-old con man who cheated several jewellers in the city’s Pete areas by buying gold chains on post-dated cheques that eventually bounced. Jagadisha, a resident of Yelahanka, initially approached businessmen and jewellers in Chickpet and Upparpet, seeking donations for an orphanage run by a nonprofit named Samvedana Trust.

After befriending the jewellers and gaining their trust, he would approach them again. This time, he would ask for samples of gold chains to be given to orphans. He managed to get 21 gold chains weighing 316 grams from these jewellers by giving them post-dated cheques for Rs 1 lakh. But once he got the chains, he would abscond. The cheques, however, bounced in all the cases.

Two such jewellers filed complaints with the City Market and Upparpet police stations. Police tracked down Jagadisha and recovered the chains from his house. The chains are valued at Rs 9.48 lakh.
