Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd (HMSI) on Wednesday commissioned its 4th assembly line at Narasapura near Bengaluru. With this, the plant in Karnataka has become the largest production facility for HMSI in the world.

The fourth assembly line has a capacity to produce 6 lakh unit per year, taking the total production capacity to 24 lakh units. The combined production from four plants in the country will touch 64 lakh units per year, the company said.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Honda Motor Co Asia and Oceania Regional Operations Chief Officer Shinji Aoyama said the region contributes 60% to Honda's two-wheeler sales.

“Honda's two-wheeler business spans more than 120 countries worldwide and India is leading the demand. In FY17, India alone contributed 28% to Honda's global two wheeler sales and became number one contributor to its two-wheeler business,” said Aoyama.

HMSI and its allied suppliers will invest over Rs 5,400 crore at its Narasapura plant, including Rs 2,800 crore investment by Honda's 26 suppliers.

The new assembly line will provide 7000 direct employment and another 15,000 indirectly.
