JOIN USThe negligence of an electrical contractor claimed the life of a labourer in the town on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Shivaraju (27), son of Andani, Kamaralli in Mysuru taluk.
A few days ago 20 labourers, including Shivaraju, replaced old electric poles in the town. On Wednesday, they replaced 15 poles and when the work was under progress for the 16th pole, Shivaraju came in contact with a live wire and got electrocuted. Though he was rushed to the town hospi-tal, he succumbed to his injuries.
Cesc Executive Engineer Nagesh and AEE Pradeep visited the spot.
It is alleged that the contractor had to pay Rs 3,000 per hour as charges to the Cesc to switch off the line to take up the repair works.
The contractor reportedly did not pay the amount and made the labourers continue their work without disconnecting the power.
