Logistics and freight specialist DHL Global Forwarding on Friday inaugurated integrated warehousing site in Bengaluru, which has witnessed an investment of Rs 7.5 crore, and would provide both Customs Bonded and Domestic (CBD) warehousing solutions.

The Rs 77,500 sq feet GST-ready facility -- located at Kasaba Hobli within 22 km of the Kempegowda International Airport -- is an appointed Customs public warehouse with domestic area for storage, sales and distribution of goods. It functions as a duty-free zone and comes with an area for value creation that enables labeling, packaging and repacking services, ensuring seamless handling, storage and movement of imports with an option to re-export as well.

Industry verticals including automotive, engineering and maintenance, fashion apparel, retail, duty-free shops, life sciences, healthcare and technology can be served through this solution.

Explaining the relevance of Bengaluru to establish a facility of this scale, DHL Global Forwarding India Chief Executive Officer George Lawson said, "With a large presence of leading IT players, and several multinational and retail brands, Bengaluru handles huge volumes of imports. The unique combination of CBD facilities under one roof offers import customers the convenience and ease of doing business."

According to statistics published by custodians, Kempegowda International Airport handles close to 84,000 MT of air imports per year. Given its strategic location, it can impact close to 1,20,000 MT per year, taking into account the catchment areas in surrounding Tamil Nadu and Kerala, among others.
