In major setback to the merger between two AIADMK warring factions in Tamil Nadu, the rebel group led by former chief minister O Panneerselvam (OPS) announced that a protest would be launched on August 18 against Edappadi K Palaniswami government over several issues.

Despite chief minister Palaniswami expressing confident on Monday that there would be united AIADMK very soon, OPS group is going ahead with the protest.

During the protest demonstration, the rebel group is expected to target the ruling party over several issues including NEET confusion, drinking water crisis and alleged corruption charges in various departments.

Earlier, the protest was planned on August 10. However, it was postponed to August 18 since OPS group could not obtain permission from the police on time.

Banners were also erected at several places announcing that the protest will be organised under the leadership of Panneerselvam and AIADMK Puratchi Thalaivi Amma presidium chairman E Madhusudanan.

Recently, Rajya Sabha member V Maitreyan, one of the top honchos of the rebel faction, alleged that there was corruption in every department in the ruling AIADMK regime. His statement was also endorsed by Panneerselvam.
