The state government is initiating steps to declare parts of state that have received scanty rainfall drought-hit, Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa said on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters here, he said that the chief minister has directed deputy commissioners of all districts to send a report on the weather condition. The state Cabinet will take a decision on declaring the affected areas drought-hit.

The situation is grim in many parts of the state. The Revenue department has chalked out a plan to take up relief works in the affected places, he added.
