With polls approaching, HDK moves back to 'lucky' house

Last Updated 23 August 2017, 20:57 IST

With elections round the corner, former chief minister and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy has moved back into his “lucky” J P Nagar residence in Bengaluru.

Kumaraswamy and his wife Anitha moved back into the house in JP Nagar 3rd Phase after incorporating certain modifications and making it vaastu compliant. They also performed homas and havans like ‘vaastu homa’, ‘gana homa’, ‘sudarshana homa’ and ‘Sathyanarayana puja’, in the hope of ushering in good luck.

Kumaraswamy, who had built the house in 1993, had always considered this house lucky (until 2007). For, it was after moving into this house that he had won his first election in 1996, which marked the beginning of his political career. Kumaraswamy later went on to become the chief minister in 2006. That year, Kumaraswamy was required to move into the government residence Anugraha, where he had stayed for the next 20 months.

But all was not well, when he moved back into the JP Nagar house in 2007, after he stepped down from the seat of power. “My son Nikhil had made several alterations in the house, which were not vaastu compliant. Besides a swimming pool, he had built a big garage for his cars, and  kennels for his dogs. I don’t know if it was a coincidence, but I experienced several setbacks after moving back into the house 10 years ago. I took a beating both on the personal and professional front. While my health started failing, losing the 2013 elections was the last straw. I decided to sell the house in 2015. I had even taken an advance of Rs 1 crore,” he said.

It was at this point that something happened, forcing him to change his mind. “After I decided to sell the house, I saw a cobra right in front of my gate. I was given to understand this was a good omen, and my wife convinced me that we should stay back in the house,” he said.

The couple consulted various vaastu experts and astrologers, who advised them to introduce certain modifications. “I am hoping to make a fresh start,” he added.
