The Supreme Court’s verdict on right to privacy is a blow on the government’s attempt to encroach and snoop on the citizens, Congress has said on Thursday.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi also said the verdict heralded a new era for individual rights, personal liberty and human dignity.

She also applauded the other Opposition parties for standing together in the court and in Parliament together and speaking against the right to privacy and dignity of all Indians against the attempt to curtail them.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi said the apex Court decision marked a “major blow to the fascist forces. “A sound rejection of BJP’s ideology of suppression through surveillance,” Rahul said describing the decision as a “victory for every Indian”.

CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury called the verdict “far reaching”, pointing out that it will have consequences in several domains.
