The cracks within the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) over continuation of a shutdown in the Darjeeling hills demanding a separate state of Gorkhaland, have widened with GJM chief Bimal Gurung smelling a conspiracy in the party.
A day before the crucial talks at the state secretariat Nabanna, convened by chief minister Mamata Banerjee, to end the impasse in Darjeeling, Gurung has warned his own party leaders of severe retaliation if they discussed nything other than Gorkhaland with the state government.
In an audio message circulated in the hills, Gurung has said, “Whoever attends the meeting should only talk on the agenda of Gorkhaland. If the statehood issue is not discussed (by the state government), then they must walk out of the meeting. If talks take place on other issues, they will not be allowed to return to Darjeeling.”
