HC denies permission for ITI students to write exams

Last Updated 28 August 2017, 20:44 IST

The High Court of Karnataka on Monday refused to grant permission to thousands of students studying in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state to write their exams, which commenced on Monday.

Hearing a batch of petitions filed by ITIs, Justice G Narendar refused to grant permission to students to appear for the examination as their institutions were not recognised by the state government. The ITI students have moved the court seeking directions to allow them to appear for the examinations.

During the hearing, the court was informed that many of the ITIs do not have the required recognition. Several ITIs that have approached the court run their institutions in sheds. The judge directed the state government to file its objections in the matter and adjourned the hearing to September 8.
