Last Updated 29 August 2017, 18:23 IST

Air India will continue to expand its network and fleet and there will be no let up on such issues, the national carrier’s new Chairman and Managing Director Rajiv Bansal has said.

Bansal, who was given additional charge of the airline, had taken over last week after Ashwani Lohani was appointed as the Chairman of Railway Board.

Lohani was moved and Bansal appointed at a time the government is working on the contours of disinvesting the national carrier.

In his first formal communication with the employees, he said he has full faith in their capabilities and experience. “I am sure that we will work as a team and do everything to further strengthen the profitability of the company,” he said.

“We have introduced new flights to international destinations and will continue to launch new routes in the days to come. Along with extending our network, we will be inducting new aircraft to augment our fleet with state of the art aircraft like the Dreamliners and A320neos,” Bansal said in the letter.

He referred to the 10 years of the merger of Air India and Indian Airlines and said, “Exactly 10 years ago, a new resurgent Air India was born.”

“I exhort you all to rededicate yourself towards turning around our beloved Air India.” Nearly 10 years after the merger, Air India managed to post an operational profit of Rs 105 crore in 2015-16.
