Melange of cultures

The CMR Institute of Management Studies celebrated its college day with a strong international flavour representing the cultural and ethnic diversity of their student body.
“We are very proud of our cultural diversity and celebrate it with a carefully planned and executed event every two years,” said Danish, a student council member.

That CMR Institute of Management Studies has emerged as an important centre of learning for international students was clearly reflected in the interesting and eclectic costumes and international styles the students were sporting on campus not to mention the colourful backdrop of flags from the different countries flapping in the breeze forming a perfect backdrop to the proceedings.

Participating in the prize distribution cum cultural event were local students pooling their talent and resources with students from SAARC countries such as Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Nepal, South East Asian countries like Malaysia, neighbours such as Mauritius and several African and Arab countries.

The programme began with a Tibetan song which had plenty of energy, colour and sound aptly setting the tone for the events to follow.

Then came a beautiful Nepali dance full of rhythm and movement where students in the elegant flowing costumes took to the stage and laid the perfect foundation for the rest of the evening that was a celebration of a mix of cultures.
Speaking on the occasion, BESCOM Executive Director Tushar Girinath said he was mesmerised by the different songs, dances and performances that were well rehearsed and presented and fondly recalled his own student days.
He also urged students to take their academics seriously and become civic conscious citizens of tomorrow.

The highlight of the cultural programme was a fashion show specially choreographed and presented by the Tibetan students.
This was preceded by a colourful series of songs and dances by students from Africa, Yemen, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Mauritius as well as many regional parts of India.
