Rs 22 lakh worth gold seized: 2 arrested

28 house burglary cases in DK and Kasargod solved

Addressing a press meet here on Monday, he said the arrested are Murugan alias Kalimuthu alias Kodangaswamy (41), a native of Shankaran Koil taluk of Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu and Balasubrahmanya alias Balu (33) of Shankaran Koil taluk of Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. The duo were arrested based on the information given by Valerian Felix Pinto of Sornadu in Panjikallu of Bantwal taluk. On interrogation, they revealed that they were involved in 28 house burglary cases in Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod districts.

The police are looking for other associates of the duo. In fact, the duo along with their associates were arrested by Udupi police two years ago. However, they had availed the bail and were absconding since then by not attending the court hearing. Hosur said “after stealing the gold, the duo were heading to Tamil Nadu to sell the gold.

The DK police were in constant touch with the Tamil Nadu police to seize the gold sold in Tamil Nadu.” On the direction of Additional SP Ramesh, Puttur division DySP Shashidhar, Bantwal Police Circle Inspector K Nanjundegowda, Vivekananda, Vinayaka Billava, Sanjeeva Purusha, Kanthappa Gowda, Jnanashekara and others carried out the operation. The team was honoured with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 on the occasion.

‘Ready to face challenges’

IGP called upon the underworld criminals to appear before the police and surrender and come to the mainstreams of the society. He urged them not to indulge in illegal activities and thus harm the peace of the district.  “We are ready to face any kind of challenges posed by them and will continue our effort to contain the underworld activities.”

Public are joining hands with the police department in nabbing the case in Dakshina Kannada district which is a good trend. We have solved several cases based on the information given by the informers. Valerian Felix Pinto of Sornadu was felicitated on the occasion.
