Mudalgi shuts down seeking taluk status

The bandh call demanding taluk status to Mudalgi town was near total. The town witnessed massive protest seeking taluk status. The protesters condemned the step motherly attitude being meted out to the residents of the town.

Though various committees had recommended according taluk status to Mudalagi the Congress government had been denying its due. The town had not found mention despite other towns in other district were notified as new taluks despite not recommended by different committees.

The injustice was highly condemnable, the protesters, who raised slogans and protested tying black bands to draw the attention of the government. Earlier, in the day, in support of the demand hundreds of youths took out a bike rally from Gokak till Mudalagi. The rally commenced from Kolavi Hanumanth temple and till the protest venue in Mudalagi.

Addressing the participants of the rally Bharatiya Janata Party Ashok Pujari said Mudalagi had all potential to become a taluk headquarter however due to lack of political will the citizens of town and surrounding villages were being denied their right.

Ashok Pujari said the agitation in support of the demand would not stop until the justice was met.

Cooperative and District Incharge Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi should immediately pressurise on the Chief Minister to accord Mudalagi its due, MLA Balchandra Jarkiholi representing the Arbhavi constituency should also prevail on the Chief Minister.

The government should immediately issue a notification declaring the town as the new taluk else the government would face the wrath of the people the protesters cautioned.
