6 killed as MUV hits stationary lorry

Six people, including three of a family, were killed when the multi-utility vehicle (MUV) in which they were travelling collided with the rear-end of a stationary lorry at Halageri here on Sunday night.

The dead are Nagamma Bhandari, 48, Poornima Bhandari, 25, Sarvakka Lingadahalli, 58, all belonging to the same family from Makanur in the taluk; Gangamma Gadagimath from Itagi; Nagaraj Guttur, 28, from Kodiyal Hosapete; Gowramma Gurusiddappa, 40, from Bharamasagara near Chitradurga.

They were on their way back from Sigandhur temple in Shivamogga district.

Five people, including the driver of the MUV, were injured in the accident and they have been shifted to hospital.

The lorry was laden with logs of Eucalyptus trees and no reflective stickers were pasted to indicate the presence of the logs.
