MCC will take measures to mitigate floods: Commissioner

Last Updated 13 April 2010, 16:30 IST

MLA, Mayor and MCC standing committee presidents visited the low lying areas from Kottara to Gujjarakere in city corporation limits on Tuesday to examine the work on drains.  He said temporary drains will be constructed to allow the water to flow freely during monsoon.

Drains will also be cleaned. In many places, plastic covers thrown to the drains have lead to the blocking of the drains leading to flood. Health and engineering section officials will be put into work to clear the drains. If the work on the drains and footpaths were taken along with the concreting of the road, the problem of artificial flood would not have arisen.

Dr Vijayprakash said tenders have been invited for the work on 11 major drains and footpaths in the city limits at an estimated cost of Rs 4.6 crore. An estimate is being prepared for laying 23 km footpath and drains in the city. The tender will be invited once we get grant from the government, he informed.
