On Saturday, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in the State Capital to attend the centenary celebration of Patna University, he is likely to come face to face with former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha.

Though given a choice Modi would not have preferred to have a one to one interaction with the senior BJP leader who recently tore PM’s economic policy to shreds. But Yashwant, an alumnus of Patna University, who completed his post-graduation from here in 1958 and then taught in PU till 1960, before cracking the civil services examination in 1960, will also be one of the prominent guests on the occasion.

Although Yashwant won’t share the dais with Modi, it will be Nitish, his deputy Sushil Modi and Bihar Governor Satyapal Malik who will be seated next to the Prime Minister. Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, another PU alumnus, will also share the dais with the PM.

BJP Lok Sabha member from Patna Saheb, Shatrughan Sinha, who does not enjoy a very warm relationship with his party high command, is also likely to be there at the meet chaired by Modi. And so will be Lalu Prasad, the RJD chief.

While Lalu, Nitish, Sushil Modi and Ravi Shankar Prasad have been contemporaries (and also student leaders in the 70s), Shatru graduated from PU in the 60s before moving to tinsel town.

Meanwhile, invitations to 4000 persons have been sent for the centenary celebration of one of the oldest universities established during the British period. Of these 4000 invitees, many of them are students pursuing post-graduation and research work. Such students have been asked to carry proper identity proof, preferably Aadhaar card.
