PM tells guvs to be catalysts for change

Last Updated 12 October 2017, 19:54 IST

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said governors can become catalytic agents for change in the society, while upholding the sanctity of the Constitution.

Addressing the 48th Conference of Governors at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Modi said the mission of achieving ‘New India by 2022’ was possible only with widespread popular participation.

He said it is important to encourage innovation not just in terms of new technology, but also for finding solutions to long-standing problems.

Modi wanted the governors to encourage their states, especially the youth and the university network, to adopt one sport (other than cricket) in which the state has potential and attempt to excel in it.

Giving the example of the recent hackathon conducted by the Union Government, during which many students had proposed technology-driven solutions to several problems, the prime minister said universities should be centres of innovation.
