A 48-year-old woman was arrested at the Kempegowda International Airport on Thursday and four gold biscuits weighing 466 gm worth Rs 14 lakh were seized from her.

The suspect, Poonselvi Narayanakumar, is a native of Thindivanam in Tamil Nadu, and had concealed four gold biscuits in her rectum, the Air Intelligence Unit of Customs sleuths said.

According to the sleuths, the woman landed at the Bengaluru airport by Emirates flight number EK-568 around 3.10 am. Sleuths who found her suspicious searched her baggage but found nothing unusual. However, when her body was searched, the sleuths found four gold biscuits concealed in her rectum.

The woman was a school dropout and a divorcee, who worked as a housemaid. She had proceeded to Dubai with the help of a relative who had promised her a job there.

In Dubai, Poonselvi befriended a person who promised her Rs 25,000 for carrying the gold to India.

Since she was in dire need of money, she readily accepted the offer. According to the deal, she was to hand over the gold to a person waiting outside the airport who would contact her on her mobile once she arrived.
