A man reportedly threw his three minor daughters from a speeding train in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district, in an apparent attempt to get rid of them.

While one of the girls, aged six, died, the other two, aged five and eight, suffered serious injuries and are being treated at the district hospital.

According to police sources, the father threw the girls one by one while the Jansewa Express train, which runs between Amritsar and Saharsa in Bihar, was passing through the Ramkot railway station in the district on Tuesday.

The surviving daughters, Albatun Khatoon and Salina Khatoon, told the police that their father, Iddu, a resident of Motihari district in Bihar, threw them out of the train following a quarrel with their mother.

Police recovered the body of Munia Khatoon from near the railway tracks in Manpur area. Her sisters were found lying near the tracks close to Bhawanipur and Gaura villages, respectively.

The girls are in shock and said they do not want to go back to their parents, the police said.

Didn’t want daughters?

Police said the motive behind the crime was not clear, though officials suspected that Iddu might have wanted to get rid of his daughters.

Iddu’s brother Iqbal, who was travelling with him, helped in perpetrating the crime, the police sources said.
The family was travelling from Ludhiana in Punjab to their native place at Motihari.

A hunt has been launched to nab Iddu and Iqbal, officials said, adding that a case has been lodged with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the civil police.
