Traffic thrown out of gear

Last Updated 04 June 2009, 19:43 IST

The Mico Layout traffic police team had a tiring day clearing the traffic, thanks to a drainage pipe leak and a huge pit on Bhavani Nagar Main Road (in front of Sagar Automobiles). Added to it, the BWSSB and BMMP officials were at loggerheads over initiating repair works forcing the cops to block the road. As a result, traffic coming into the city from Bannerghatta Road was diverted towards Jayanagar.

As usual, in an attempt to find shortcuts, vehicles were caught in the adjoining narrow lanes of Tilak Nagar.

Bangalore West also faced the same problem. Ullala, Kengeri Upanagar and Kamakshipalya areas witnessed flooding. RR Junction near Rajajinagar was also hit badly.

Old Madras road saw slow moving traffic. Vehicles piled up as more than half-a-dozen electric poles were dangerously leaning towards the road creating havoc.

Many trees were uprooted in Bangalore city.  Trees had fallen on 23rd Main, JP Nagar, 26th Main, and 39th Main 9th Block, Jayanagar, 4th Main Vijayanagar, Near Water Tank, Vijayanagar and Chowdappa Layout in Bapuji Nagar, blocking the movement of vehicles.
Tree branches also fell in Ulsoor, Shankaranagar in Mahalakshmi Layout and Kallahalli.  Tree branches falling on cars and buses were reported at Okalipura and Rhenius Street, Richmond Town. But there were no damages.

Cases of live  BESCOM wires being cut due to the storm was reported at Mathikere 6th cross and Sampige Layout in Vijaynagar.  Seven BESCOM poles fell around Ulsoor Swimming pool Layout. Shabby sanitation work at Johnson Market saw the flooded drain flow onto the road.
