The High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday confirmed the death sentence to a person from Tamil Nadu who was convicted of killing five people in Kollegal, Chamarajanagar district, in 2015.

Murugeshan, an agricultural labourer, was convicted and sentenced to death by the Principal District and Sessions Court, Chamarajanagar, on July 22. A division bench of Justice Ravi Malimath and Justice John Michael Cunha confirmed the sentence.

Five agricultural labourers, including two women and a nine-year-old girl, all belonging to Tamil Nadu, were hacked to death near Harale village, Kollegal taluk in Chamarajanagar district.

The deceased were identified as Roja (9), Shivamma (35), Kashi (40), Rajendra (35) and Rajamma (35). Investigations had revealed that Murugeshan was upset over the illicit relationship between the women workers and the contractor and had killed them in a fit of anger.
