Hardik gets bail

Last Updated 26 October 2017, 12:53 IST
Patel quota stir leader Hardik Patel got respite on Thursday, from the Visnagar court in North Gujarat, that had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him on Wednesday.

The court granted bail to Hardik on a personal bond of Rs 5,000 after he appeared before the court.

“I had not been able to appear despite summons. Today, I approached the court and told them that elections have been announced and me being a social leader, I have some pre-decided programmes. The court acceded to my request and granted me bail,” Patel told mediapersons.

The Visnagar court had, on Monday, issued non-bailable warrant against Patel and six others, including Lalji Patel, leader of Sardar Patel Group.

A case was filed against Patel and 17 others by the Visnagar town police for ransacking the office of BJP legislator Rushikesh Patel during the protest rally of the Patidar community, demanding reservation, in July 2015.

Lalji too appeared before the court and obtained bail on similar conditions. “We are confident that we will come out clean as we have not done anything wrong,” he said.
