Sub-panels formed for Kannada Sahitya Sammelana

Deputy Commissioner D Randeep has said that 13 sub-committees have been formed for the 83rd Kannada Sahitya Sammelan to be held between November 24 and November 26 at Maharaja's College ground.

Chairing the preliminary meeting here on Friday, the DC said that the sub-committees, comprising people's representatives and officials, have been formed on the lines of Mysuru Dasara to make the event a success.

While people's representatives will be the chairpersons, officials have been appointed as working presidents and secretaries to each committee, the DC said. Separate committees have been formed for procession, transportation, food, decoration, registration, health and others.

Though a proposal has been submitted to the government seeking Rs 5 crore, another proposal seeking additional funds would be submitted again. The event needs Rs 10 crore, the DC said.

Kannada Sahitya Parishat district unit president Y D Rajanna said that the process of registration has commenced and as many as 13,000 representatives are expected. As many as 500 stalls will be set up and 92 people have already registered, he said.

Poets meet and cultural events will be held at Maharaja's College Centenary Hall and Kalamandira. A variety of cultural events including drama, folk arts have been scheduled, he said. The cultural programmes will be held at Town Hall and near Dufferin Clock Tower. As many as 30,000 people, including 10,000 representatives, 1,000 dignitaries, and 300 media persons, are expected to attend, he said.
