High School teachers boycotted valuation of SSLC answer scripts here on Thursday urging fulfilment of various demands. The valuation process was supposed to be started at St Michael’s High School. The teachers led by District High School Assistant Teachers’ Association and Aided High School Employees Association staged a protest in the noon after boycotting the valuatin.

The honourarium for valuing the answer scripts and the daily allowance should be hiked on the lines of the hike made by the PU Education Department. As per the KAT ruling, 75 per cent of the posts of the head masters should be done through promotion to the assistant teachers. The non-teaching staff posts at the various aided schools in the district should be filled at the earliest, the protesters urged.

The teachers also expressed their disappointment over neglecting senior and experienced teachers during SSLC valuation. Hill allowance should be given to the employees in other parts of the district like those in the city, they pressed.

A memorandum in this regard was submitted to Deputy Director of Public Instructions (DDPI) Narasimhaiah who arrived there during the protest.  Madikeri taluk Aided High School Employees’ Association President D A Mohan said the criteria of keeping students’ proportion as a parameter for appointing teachers should be dropped.

Over 400 teachers took part in the protest. Narasimhaiah assured the protesters of conveying their opinions to the Department Commissioner and the Secondary Education Examination Board.
