The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on Friday inducted 45 jeeps to be used for the rescue and relief during accidents.

Transport Minister H M Revanna, who operated a jeep to formally induct them, said each division will get two or three such vehicles which will also have staff trained in first aid.

"The equipment needed to give first aid in the golden hour will be stored in the vehicles. These vehicles will carry a quick response team to save lives at the critical time and rush the injured to the hospital," he said.

He said though ambulances from the health department have been providing assistance to passengers during accidents, KSRTC has gone a step further in setting up its own teams.

"Rs 3.53 crore has been spent on buying these vehicles," he added.

The minister also said private bus operators will not be stopped from providing online booking option for passengers.
