Elaborate security arrangements have been made in Kodagu for Tipu Jayanti celebrations on November 10.

As a precautionary measure, police are checking all vehicles entering Kodagu district. CCTV cameras have been installed at 40 check posts.

The state government has deputed ADGP Bhaskar Rao to oversee the security arrangements in the district.

The district administration has not printed the names of MP Prathap Simha and MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik in the Tipu Jayanti invites while The names of BJP MLAs M P Appachu Ranjan, K G Bopaiah, MLC D H Shankaramurtthy and ZP president B A Harish have been included.

Deputy Commissioner Richard Vincent D'Souza said that only those with invites will be allowed to
attend the Tipu Jayanti programme.

Strict action warned

ADGP Bhaskar Rao said that all measures have been taken to organise the programme peacefully.

As there is stiff opposition to Tipu Jayanti, it is the responsibility of the state government to maintain peace, he said.

"Everyone has the right to speak in a democracy but if anyone takes law into their hands, then strict action would be initiated against them. Prohibitory orders have been clamped across the district," Rao said.
