Water supply to be restored today

No water even in ground level reservoirs in the City, says official

Some desperately tried in vain for both the private and BWSSB water tankers.
However, BWSSB has stated that water supply would be restored in many areas by Saturday as the damaged wall of the canal was rebuilt.

Residents in areas such as Domlur, have already suffered from lack of water supply since Thursday. Venkatesh, Founder Secretary of the Domlur Second Stage Residents Association, said he spent the day receiving calls from irate members of the area asking for some kind of solution to the water crisis.

Conceding the shortage of water through tankers, a top BWSSB official said he received repeated requests for tankers.  “There is not a drop of water in the ground level reservoirs in the City. How can we supply water through our tankers?”

Kamaraj Road received its last drop of water before 6 am, but there was no water supply during the usual water supply period (6 am to 11 am), said Chandrashekar, secretary of the Traders Association here.

Wall works completed

BWSSB Chief Engineer T Venkataraju said a wall had been built in place of the breached wall at Handi Halli point in the 20-km long canal running between Shiva Anecut and Netkal Balancing reservoir that supplies Cauvery water to the City. “For safety, an additional wall running to a length of 30 feet and a depth of eight feet has been constructed,” he said.

“More batches of the BWSSB employees were rushed to the spot late Thursday night and the building work was continued throughout the night and completed by 4 pm on Friday,” he added. Curing of the new wall was yet to be carried out. The dam gates would be opened and water released gradually by increasing it one feet at a time.

“When we are sure no leakage would take place, the water would be released in full force to NBR, which would head to T K Halli and the City,” he added. Water is expected to reach the doorsteps by Saturday afternoon or evening, Venkataraju assured.
