Chief minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate a community hall for the Konkani Kharvi community here at Trasi on November 21. The hall has been built at a cost of Rs 10 crore.
Speaking to reporters, Konkani Kharvi Mahasabha president K B Kharvi said that the community is economically, socially and educationally backward. "A majority of the community members depend on fishing for livelihood. The previous BJP government and the present Congress government have contributed Rs 1 crore each for the hall and the remaining amount was collected through charity. As many as 25,000 community people are expected to take part in the inaugural ceremony," he said.
He added that Union Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, former chief minister Yedyurappa, MP Shobha Karandlaje, state ministers R V Deshpande, Pramodh Madhwaraj and Anjaneya would be the chief guests on the occasion.
