State-level roller skating championship begins today

Selection and trials for the 33rd state-level roller skating competition and championship will be conducted by Karnataka Roller Skating Association at Francis Doris Skate City at Hoigebail, Ashoknagar in Mangaluru from November 23 to 27.

Addressing reporters at Patrika Bhavan here on Wednesday, Hi-Flyers Skating Club president Santhosh Shetty said that the event will be inaugurated by district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai on November 23 at 5 pm. The state-of-the-art skating rink, built by Francis Conessao and Doris Conessao, will be inaugurated by Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fisheries Minister Pramod Madhwaraj at 7.30 am. Fr Austin Peris will preside over the function. Food and Civil Supplies Minister U T Khader will inaugurate the road event.

Winners of the district-level roller skating competitions will take part in the state-level championship. The participants include Asian games relay medalist Dhanush Babu, Asian games medalist Varsha Puranik, National Champion Elizabeth Acchaiah Aditya Rao, Rithik Karadi, Mouna Babu, Omkar Yogaraj, Khushi Rani and Dashel Amanda Conessao. A total of 800 skaters are expected at the event, he said.

Roller Skating Association General Secretary P K Bharat Kumar, Hi Flyers Skating Club Secretary Jayaraj and K Srikanth Rao were present.
