A high-level offshore security exercise, code-named 'Prasthan', was conducted at  the ONGC oil platform 'Heera', located about 40  km  west of the Mumbai Harbour, in the Heeraa-Panna oil field.

This exercise is conducted every six months, under the aegis of the Western Naval Command to validate response to various contingencies in the Offshore Development Area (ODA) off Mumbai.

The contingency response was managed by the Crisis Management Group (CMG) from the Joint Operations Centre, Mumbai.

The CMG comprises stakeholders from various central/ state govt agencies including the Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, ONGC, Mumbai Police, Mumbai Port Trust and Global Vectra.

The exercise - conducted on 21-22 November  -  provided a realistic scenario to assess readiness of all stakeholders to fight contingencies at the Western Offshore area in a synergistic and coordinated manner.
