Two youths arrested for assaulting cops

Two youths were arrested for allegedly assaulting a police constable with a beer bottle at Surya Bar and Restaurant near Basaveshwara Nagar on Friday.

The accused have been identified as Adithya Shetty (29) and Gaurav Shetty (29). The injured constable C V Srinivas is being treated at a local hospital.

Police said Srinivas and head constable Narayanaswamy of Basaveshwara Nagar police station were on their night beat on Thursday. On seeing the Surya Bar and Restaurant open even after 1.25 am and a 12 member gang creating noise, they asked the owner to close the bar and began dispersing the group from the bar, the police said.

It was then that the accused began creating a ruckus and refused to go out. When the constables tried to push them out, one of the accused attacked Srinivas with a beer bottle injuring his head. The accused fled the scene. Later, a separate team was formed  who arrested the accused,'' said police.
