Nitish joins anti-Padmavati chorus

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on  Tuesday said that the controversial movie 'Padmavati' will not be released in Bihar till filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali clears doubts and objections raised by a particular section of the society.

Nitish's assertion comes on a day when the Supreme Court came down heavily on people holding public office and commenting on 'Padmavati' even before the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has certified the movie.

Nitish thus became the fifth chief  minister in the country who has protested against the movie's release.

Nitish, who runs his government in Bihar with the support of the BJP, has thus joined the league of chief ministers of BJP-ruled states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh where the government has asserted that it  will not al the ow release of 'Padmavati' due to "distortion of history."

The "ban-Padmavati" chorus in Bihar was witnessed when a ruling party legislator, Neeraj Singh Babloo, met Nitish on Tuesday and complained to the  chief minister about how Bhansali had distorted history and hurt the sentiments of the Rajputs by making Rani Padmavati (portrayed by actor Deepika Padukone) dance in the movie.

"The filmmaker will have to address the concerns raised by people. Till then, the movie won't be released in Bihar," Nitish reportedly assured the legislator.
