PO directed to pay insured sum

B M Vishwanath, a supervisor in the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation had obtained a postal insurance in 2006 for Rs 40,000. After his death in 2007, his wife Vijaya Vishwanath claimed the amount.

 But the post office repudiated the claim on the ground that Vishwanath had suppressed the fact of his illness while taking the policy.

Her legal notice met with vague replies. The Forum, following a complaint, directed the post office to pay up the amount due under the policy within a month.

Complaint dismissed

The Forum has dismissed a complaint filed by a consumer against a private engineering firm. Sujatha, in her complaint had alleged that Value Design and Engineering Associates Private Ltd had not completed the work entrusted to it.

The firm, however established that the cheque issued by Sujatha had been dishonoured and termed the complaint as frivolous. The Forum dismissed the complaint.

College told to refund

The Forum directed the Seshadripuram Composite PU College to refund the admission fee to a student who sought to change her course.

M V Siddappa had paid an admission fee of Rs 23,500 while admitting his daughter for first year PU.

As she later wanted to join the diploma course, the college refunded only half of the total admission fee. The Forum had ordered the administration to refund the remaining Rs 11,115 to Siddappa.

Film City falters

Rajath Fashions had paid Rs 49,445 to Innovative Film City to set up a retail store. The latter had promised consumers to provide business space near Toyota Kirloskar Tech Park. Two years later finding no Film City coming up, it asked to refund the money. The demand was however ignored. The Third Forum ordered the Innovative Film City which remained absent during the proceedings in the consumer court, to refund Rs 49, 445 to Rajath Fashions with 12 per cent interest from July 2006 till date of payment within four weeks of the order.

Builders told to repay

This Forum has also ordered Megha City Developers and Builders Private  Limited to pay up Rs 74,450 with 12 per cent interest to consumers who had paid the money for sites.
Chiatra S. and Nethra S. had deposited the sum for the sites, which were not delivered as promised.
