Kashmir freezes, Leh records -12 degree C

Bone-chilling winds lashed Kashmir and Ladakh region as night temperatures went down further on Monday.

According to the local Met office, the minimum temperature was - 3.7 degrees Celsius in Srinagar, nearly two degrees lower than the previous night's 2 degrees.

With - 3.7 degrees Celsius, Srinagar recorded season's coldest night.

Leh town, in the cold desert of Ladakh, was the coldest in the state with the mercury falling 12 degrees below the freezing point compared to Saturday night's - 8.6 degrees.

The famed tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir, which serves as a base camp during the annual Amarnath yatra, recorded - 4.1 degrees Celsius, against - 1.8 degrees recorded on Saturday night.

The ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir settled at - 3 degrees, a degree down from Saturday night's - 2 degrees.

A Met office spokesman said dry weather conditions will prevail in the state over the week.
