Yet another protest against sewage plants

Last Updated 09 December 2017, 04:30 IST

The members of Federation of Apartment Associations Bengaluru (FAAB) have organised a silent march on December 16, against the imposition of retrospective Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) in apartments by the BWSSB.

More than 500 residents from 218 apartment associations under the federation are expected to participate in the rally from Town Hall to Freedom Park.

"We are against the retrospective imposition of STPs in apartments which can be a threat to the buildings and moreover, the National Green Tribunal never ordered to include STPs in old apartments," said S Shivakumar, general secretary, FAAB.

Shivakumar also said that most of these old apartment complexes have their sewage lines connected to the existing underground drain and it is the responsibility of the BWSSB to maintain the system.

"Among the existing STPs that are maintained by BWSSB, all of them are situated near lakes and they are letting out the treated water into the water body. The water is supposed to be used only for industrial and agricultural purposes," he said.
