The high court on Tuesday sentenced Sunil H B, a sub-inspector at Kaggalipura police station, to one-month imprisonment and fined him Rs 2,000 for disrespecting its orders.

A division bench of Justices Ravi Malimath and John Michael Cunha passed the order while hearing a contempt of court petition filed by the high court registrar general against Sunil. In 2016, he had refused to accept the bail copy issued by a court to release an accused in the criminal case. He even threw the order saying he has seen many of them.

Later in the day, however, he completed the formalities and released the accused. The lawyer for the accused filed a contempt of case against Sunil in the sessions court.

The case was transferred to the high court, which took up a suo motu contempt of court case against the sub-inspector.
