Centre extends deadline to link Aadhaar, PAN

New Delhi, DHNS: The Centre on Wednesday extended the deadline for linking of Aadhaar and PAN with bank accounts to March 31 or six months from date of commencement of account, whichever is later. Earlier the deadline was December 31.

The announcement came a day ahead of the Supreme Court deciding to hear a bunch of petitions challenging Centre's move to make Aadhaar mandatory for government welfare schemes.

"After considering various representations and inputs received from banks, it has been decided to notify 31st March, 2018 or six months from the date of commencement of account based relationship by the client, whichever is later, as the date of submission of the Aadhaar number, and Permanent Account Number or Form 60 by the clients to the reporting entity," the finance ministry said in a statement late evening.

Earlier in the day a government notification had left the deadline for linking the two documents with bank accounts open ended.

The Centre had last week informed the Supreme Court that it was willing to extend till March 31 the mandatory linking of Aadhaar to avail welfare schemes run by the government.
