Untimely rain cause damage to standing crops in Gundlupet

Heavy rain lashed parts of Gundlupet taluk on Wednesday night and intermittent rain was witnessed throughout Thursday.

The farmers growing horsegram are worried over the loss of crop, due to the sudden rain. Raghavapura received 3 cm rain, Nenekatte, Mookahalli, Maguvinahalli, Shindanapura received 2 cm and Somahalli, Berambadi and other places 1 cm rainfall, according to officials.

Saligrama, Mirle, Chunchanakatte and other places in KR Nagar taluk of Mysuru district have also been experiencing rain since the past two days, creating anxiety among the paddy growers.

According to farmers, it is harvesting time for paddy and the sudden rains have turned the paddy fields slushy. "It is feared that the standing crop may be destroyed. A few farmers, who have already begun harvesting, could not lift the yield due to continuous showers. The government should provide suitable compensation for the crop loss," the farmers demanded.
