Search panels to recommend new names for BU, UoM VC posts

The Higher Education department has written to the search committees created to suggest names for the posts of vice chancellor of Bangalore University and University of Mysore, asking them to recommend new names.

The Governor's office had written to the department on November 2, asking it to recommend new names after the Governor rejected those recommended by the government the first time. The government is now taking steps to follow the direction.

Officials of the department have instructed the search committees to conduct meetings and recommend new names from the applications they have already received. They have written to the heads of the committees, asking them to confirm a date to hold a meeting.

The search committee for BU's VC is headed by Dr S R Niranjana, VC of Gulbarga University, and the committee for UoM is headed by Dr H P Khincha, former vice-chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University.

The post of V-C of UoM has been vacant since January while BU has been without a regular VC since February.

The government had earlier recommended the names of Prof S A Patil for BU and Prof C P Siddashrama for UoM but they were rejected by the Governor Vajubhai Vala.
