BBMP Chief instructs officials to speed up white topping work

Last Updated 21 December 2017, 19:24 IST

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to hasten the white-topping (concretisation) of roads in the city to ease the traffic congestions caused by it.

On Thursday, the BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad along with R Hithendra, Additional Commissioner (Traffic) inspected the stretches where white-topping of roads is underway. Hitendra assured that policemen will be deployed at the junctions to help the motorists and reduce congestion, especially during the peak hours.

The decision comes after reports and complaints by commuters who faced inconvenience and heavy traffic jams  on a regular basis where the work was in progress. These stretches have been narrowed to a single lane and heavy congestion has become a common sight here.

The officials inspected Anepalya on the Hosur road and said that the work would be completed by December 28. Additionally, the one-kilometre stretch of road from Hosur Road to Silk Board junction will be thrown open within the next two weeks.

Prasad appealed to the citizens to co-operate as this was a temporary problem.
