The District Health Department is all set to open a new Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) atop the Chamundi Hill.

In a meeting on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner D Randeep agreed to provide land for the construction of a PHC atop the hill. The District Health Officer (DHO) Dr B Basavaraju said that the government has sanctioned a PHC atop the hill but the health department has no land to construct the necessary building.

The DC said, the PHC is much needed atop the hill. A few death cases have been reported there in the recent past due to non-availability of medical facilities. The land will be allotted soon, he assured. "It may be mentioned that a dispensary is functioning atop the hill. The sanctioned PHC will have sufficient staff, including a doctor, nurse and assistants," said Mysuru taluk health officer, Dr Ravi.

They have agreed to provide land for the construction of PHCs' own buildings at Somnathpur and K Salhundi, in the taluk. At present, the PHCs are functioning at the Anganwadi centre and in a dilapidated building, respectively, said the authorities.
