The town police have registered a suo motu complaint against Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP and BJP leader Shobha Karandlaje regarding a tweet she made on December 14, saying 'jihadis' had tried to rape and murder a class IX girl in the town.
It is said the girl in question had injured herself in the hand by pricking it with the thorns of a lemon plant over a personal issue. This had led to a tense situation in the town.
The police said Shobha's tweet was aimed at disturbing peace as the girl had clarified that there was no religious angle in the complaint registered by her.
