Sharad Yadav-led JD to back Cong in Assembly polls

Last Updated 22 December 2017, 17:21 IST

The Sharad Yadav-faction of the Janata Dal will continue its alliance partnership with the Congress in the 2018 Assembly election in the state and the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the party's national general secretary and former Lok Sabha member P Kodandaramaiah has said.

The Janata Dal was an alliance partner with the Congress in the recently-held Gujarat polls. "The Congress and its allies have already arrived at an understanding that they should build up a coalition at national level to defeat the communal forces in all the elections that are going to take place in 2018 and 2019. The immediate concern of this coalition is the upcoming Assembly elections in Karnataka. It is hoped that the alliance arrangements will be fine-tuned in the near future at national level and implemented to start with in Karnataka," Kodandaramaiah, a former Bengaluru police commissioner said in a statement.
