Malaria contained in NK districts

Last Updated 20 April 2010, 16:57 IST

Out of the 3,500 blood samples colletected from several villages, only 236 have tested positive for the disease, said Malaria Prevention Unit’s senior health officer Dr S R Mudanur.
Mudanur said the spread of malaria has been contained in the villages within 2-km radius of the two districts. There have been no malaria-related deaths either. Untimely rains in the month of October and stagnation of Alamatti backwater has provided a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Fogging will be undertaken in all the villages to contain the mosquitoes, he added.
Dr N S Tiwari, a scientist at National Malaria Prevention Institute will visit Alamatti on April 21 and undertake a week-long study of malaria-hit villages.
