Members of Karnataka Madiga Dandora Madiga Misalati Horata Samiti, and other Dalit and progressive organisations staged a protest here on Saturday, urging the President of India to call a meeting of prime minister and chief ministers of all States to take steps for the protection of Dalit community members.

Condemning the rape and murder of a girl in Vijayapur, they demanded capital punishment for the culprits. Dalits lack protection, and violence on them is increasing, they lamented.

BJP protest

BJP SC Morcha members also staged a protest, asking Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy to resign in the background of rape and murder of a Dalit girl in Vijayapur.

"BJP and Hindu workers are being murdered, honest officials are committing suicide while those who give anti-national statements are being protected. Therefore, the Governor should ask the home minister to resign," they added.
