Mahadayi: Bandh in four NK districts today

Various organisations have supported the call to observe bandh in four districts in Malaprabha command area on Wednesday (December 27). They have demanded the prime minister's intervention to resolve inter-state dispute over Mahadayi water sharing and measures for farmers' welfare.

The bandh call has been given by Mahadayi and Kalasa-Banduri Horata Samanvaya Samithi and other other farmer organisations. The Malaprabha command area covers three districts-- Dharwad, Belagavi and Bagalkot.

Holiday has been declared for all schools and colleges in Dharwad district, while Karnatak University Dharwad (KUD) and Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) have postponed the examinations. Liquor sale in the twin cities has also been banned from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, while NWKRTC will suspend its bus operations till evening. Elaborate security arrangements have also been made. Protesters have planned to take out rallies and block roads.

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and Akkamahadevi Women's University have also postponed the examinations which were scheduled to be held on Wednesday.

Schools and colleges in Ramadurga, Savadatti and Bailhongal taluks in Belagavi district will also remain closed. Holiday for schools has been declared in Gadag, Nargund and Ron taluks in Gadag district.  

In Bagalkot district, holiday has not been declared for schools and colleges. But, heavy police bandobust has been arranged, while bus service is expected to be hit.
